Spatial Display Server is designed to run as a menu-bar utility and does not keep a large application window open.
MAC PERMISSIONS
Screen Recording
Screen Recording permission allows Spatial Display Server to capture the displays you select.
To grant permission:
- Open System Settings.
- Open Privacy & Security.
- Select Screen & System Audio Recording or Screen Recording.
- Enable Spatial Display Server.
- Quit and reopen Spatial Display Server if macOS asks you to do so.
Accessibility
Accessibility permission allows the iPhone to control the Mac pointer, keyboard, scrolling, and system actions.
To grant permission:
- Open System Settings.
- Open Privacy & Security.
- Select Accessibility.
- Enable Spatial Display Server.
If video works but pointer and keyboard input do not, Accessibility permission is usually missing or the application must be reopened after permission changes.
IPHONE PERMISSIONS
Camera
The camera is required for AR tracking. Spatial Display uses camera and motion tracking to keep virtual monitors positioned relative to the phone.
Spatial Display does not record or upload camera video.
Local Network
Local Network permission allows the iPhone to discover and connect directly to the Mac on the same network.
Permissions are requested only after you sign in.
If a permission was previously denied:
- Open iPhone Settings.
- Find Spatial Display.
- Enable Camera and Local Network.
- Return to Spatial Display.
AR TRACKING AND DISPLAY DRIFT
Spatial Display uses the iPhone camera and motion sensors through ARKit to keep virtual monitors stable in your surroundings.
If the room is too dark or the camera cannot see enough recognizable detail, tracking quality may decrease. Virtual monitors can then appear to drift, shake, or shift as you move the iPhone.
For stable tracking:
- Use Spatial Display in a well-lit space with consistent lighting.
- Make sure the iPhone camera is clean and unobstructed.
- Let the camera see varied details such as furniture, edges, objects, or textured surfaces.
- Avoid pointing the camera mainly at a blank wall, dark area, or featureless surface.
- Move the iPhone slowly and smoothly. Fast movement or vigorous shaking can reduce tracking quality.
- After opening Spatial Display or returning to it, move the iPhone gently for a few seconds while ARKit maps the surroundings.
If the virtual monitors begin to drift:
- Improve the lighting and point the camera toward an area with more visible detail.
- Move the iPhone slowly for a few seconds and allow tracking to stabilize.
- Use the Recenter control to place each affected monitor in front of you again.
- If tracking does not recover, close and reopen Spatial Display in a suitable environment.

SIGNING IN
Spatial Display supports:
- Sign in with Apple
- Sign in with Google
Use the same account on the iPhone and every Mac you want to access.
If you use Apple’s Hide My Email feature, sign in with Apple on both devices using the same Apple account.
CONNECTING TO A MAC
After signing in, Spatial Display lists compatible Macs that are:
- signed in to the same account;
- currently online;
- running a compatible Spatial Display Server version; and
- available for a new connection.
If only one Mac is available, the application may connect automatically.
If multiple Macs are available:
- Tap the Mac button in the upper-left corner.
- Open the Macs panel.
- Select the Mac you want to control.
- The currently connected Mac is marked as Connected.
If no Mac is online, Spatial Display shows a link for downloading Spatial Display Server.
SELECTING DISPLAYS ON MAC
Open the Spatial Display Server menu from the macOS menu bar.
Under Displays:
- Select every display you want to share.
- At least one display must remain selected while Sharing is enabled.
- Display-selection changes are applied automatically.
- You do not need to manually stop and restart Sharing.
If a monitor is connected, removed, or changes resolution, Spatial Display Server automatically rebuilds the capture session.
TURNING SCREEN SHARING ON OR OFF
Use the Screen Sharing toggle in Spatial Display Server.
When Sharing is on:
- selected displays are available to the iPhone;
- the menu-bar icon indicates the active state;
- the Mac can optionally be kept awake; and
- Share Mac Audio becomes available.
When an iPhone is connected, turning Sharing off displays a confirmation to prevent accidental disconnection.
If the iPhone says Screen Sharing is off, open the Mac menu and enable Screen Sharing.
RECENTERING A DISPLAY
Recenter places a selected virtual monitor directly in front of your current phone direction.
The bottom control bar shows one recenter button for every available monitor, up to five buttons.
- With one display, the button has no number.
- With multiple displays, buttons are numbered 1, 2, 3, and so on.
- Tap the number corresponding to the display you want to place in front of you.
If no monitor is visible, the first recenter button pulses blue.
Recenter works independently of the direction of gravity. It can be used while looking forward, upward, downward, left, or right.
POINTER CONTROL
Spatial Display provides two pointer modes.
Crosshair Pointer
The default pointer is shown near the center of the screen.
You can:
- move the phone to look around the virtual displays;
- drag one finger to move the pointer;
- tap to click;
- drag while holding to move windows or select content;
- tap with two fingers to right-click; and
- slide two fingers to scroll.
The pointer appearance follows the current macOS cursor where supported, including the arrow, text cursor, and pointing hand.
Direct Touch Pointer
Direct Touch Pointer lets you touch the visible Mac screen at the position you want to click.
To enable it:
- Open Spatial Display Settings.
- Enable Direct Touch Pointer.
When enabled:
- the crosshair is hidden;
- touching a monitor sends the pointer to that position;
- dragging moves or drags content from the touched point; and
- small finger movement during a short tap is stabilized.
Direct Touch Actions remains temporarily unavailable while Direct Touch Pointer is enabled, but its saved preference is preserved.
DIRECT TOUCH ACTIONS
Direct Touch Actions lets you tap the action buttons surrounding a virtual monitor directly with your finger.
When disabled, monitor action buttons are operated with the crosshair.
To enable it:
- Open Settings.
- Enable Direct Touch Actions.
This setting affects only the monitor action buttons. It does not replace normal pointer and gesture control.
KEYBOARD
Tap the keyboard button in the bottom control bar to show the iOS keyboard.
Spatial Display adds a Mac control row containing:
- Esc
- Tab
- Control
- Option
- Command
- Shift
- arrow keys
- F1 through F12
Using a modifier:
- Tap Control, Option, Command, or Shift.
- Press the next key.
- The modifier turns off automatically after the command is sent.
Locking a modifier:
- Double-tap Control, Option, Command, or Shift.
- A line indicates that the modifier is locked.
- The modifier remains active until you tap it again.
All locked modifiers are released when the keyboard is hidden.
When the keyboard opens, the spatial scene moves upward so that the active monitor remains visible. It returns after the keyboard closes.
LOCAL NAVIGATION
The 3D-axis button enables Local Navigation.
When Local Navigation is active, gestures adjust the spatial monitor layout instead of sending pointer input to the Mac.
Use Local Navigation to:
- reposition the virtual display;
- pan the display; and
- pinch to move the display closer or farther away.
Tap the 3D-axis button again to return to Mac control.
MAC GESTURES
Spatial Display simulates common Mac trackpad actions.
Three fingers up:
Open Mission Control.
Three fingers down:
Open App Exposé for the current application.
Three fingers left or right:
Move between virtual desktops or full-screen applications.
Four-finger pinch:
Open or close App Launcher.
Four-finger spread:
Show or hide the desktop where supported by the current simulated state.
These actions currently use corresponding macOS system shortcuts. The associated macOS shortcut must be enabled and available.
MONITOR ACTION BUTTONS
Each virtual monitor can display action buttons around it.
Above the monitor:
- Previous Desktop
- Next Desktop
Below the monitor:
- Mission Control
- App Launcher
- Show Desktop
- Dock
The Dock button appears when Spatial Display detects that the Mac Dock uses automatic hiding. After it has appeared once, its location remains stable and it becomes temporarily disabled while the Dock is already visible.
The action buttons can be activated with the crosshair or with Direct Touch Actions.
SHARING MAC AUDIO
To hear Mac system audio on the iPhone:
- Turn on Screen Sharing.
- Enable Share Mac Audio in Spatial Display Server or the iPhone Settings panel.
- Confirm that the iPhone media volume is audible.
Share Mac Audio is disabled while Screen Sharing is off.
Audio is spatially positioned relative to the main virtual monitor. Moving closer to the monitor increases the perceived volume, and moving away reduces it.
On compatible AirPods and Apple devices, head-tracked spatial audio may be available.
If audio crackles or becomes unstable:
- verify that both devices have a stable connection;
- temporarily disconnect Bluetooth audio and reconnect it;
- restart the current sharing session; and
- test with Share Mac Audio disabled and re-enabled.
MULTIPLE MONITORS
Every selected Mac display is transmitted as a separate video stream.
This preserves:
- each display’s aspect ratio;
- its current resolution;
- its position in the Mac display arrangement; and
- correct pointer coordinates.
The free version may limit access to additional displays. Spatial Display Pro unlocks every selected and supported display.
MULTIPLE MACS
You can sign in to more than one Mac with the same account.
Use the Macs panel on iPhone to select the Mac you want to access.
A Mac that is already controlled by another receiver may be shown as unavailable until the active session ends.
LOCAL AND INTERNET CONNECTIONS
Spatial Display works:
- on the same Wi-Fi or local network;
- across different networks; and
- over supported cellular connections.
WebRTC attempts to connect the iPhone and Mac directly. If the network does not allow a direct connection, the encrypted connection may use a relay server.
Changing between Wi-Fi and cellular can interrupt the current network route. Spatial Display automatically attempts to rebuild the connection.
If recovery takes too long, close and reopen the iPhone application or restart Spatial Display Server.
KEEPING THE MAC AWAKE
Spatial Display Server includes Keep Mac awake while sharing.
When enabled:
- idle sleep is prevented while Sharing is active; and
- stopping Sharing releases the sleep-prevention assertion.
This feature does not override:
- closing a MacBook lid;
- manually selecting Sleep;
- shutting down the Mac;
- power loss; or
- system or organization power policies.
For reliable remote access, leave the Mac powered, connected to a network, with the lid open, and with Screen Sharing enabled.
WAKING A SLEEPING MAC
Spatial Display can send a Wake Mac request to a previously connected Mac.
Before using Wake Mac:
- On your Mac, open System Settings.
- Select Battery.
- Open Options.
- Set Wake for network access to Always.
- Make sure the iPhone and Mac are connected to the same local network.
When the Mac is asleep and no Mac appears online, tap Wake Mac in Spatial Display. Allow the Mac a short time to wake, reconnect to the network, and make Spatial Display Server available.
Wake may require an Ethernet connection on your Mac. Wi-Fi wake availability depends on the Mac model, network hardware, and macOS. Wake Mac cannot turn on a Mac that is shut down or without power. A closed MacBook lid may also prevent the Mac from becoming available.
STARTING AUTOMATICALLY
Spatial Display Server can:
- open automatically when you sign in to your Mac; and
- start Sharing automatically whenever the application opens.
These options are available in Mac Settings.
If Start Sharing automatically and Keep Mac awake while sharing are both enabled, the Mac may remain awake after login while Sharing remains active.
PROTECTED VIDEO AND BLACK SCREENS
Netflix and some other streaming services use protected-video technologies.
When Screen Sharing is active:
- protected video may stop playing;
- the protected area may appear black; or
- the service may display a playback warning.
This behavior is enforced by macOS and the content provider. Spatial Display cannot and does not bypass digital-rights-management protection.
Turn off Screen Sharing before watching protected content directly on the Mac.
SPATIAL DISPLAY PRO
Spatial Display Pro provides the paid features shown in the subscription screen, including unlimited local and remote connection time and access to additional selected displays.
Subscriptions are available monthly or yearly.
To purchase:
- Open Spatial Display Settings.
- Open Spatial Display Pro.
- Select the monthly or yearly option.
- Confirm through the App Store.
To restore:
- Open Spatial Display Pro.
- Select Restore Purchases.
To manage or cancel:
- Open iPhone Settings.
- Tap your Apple Account.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Spatial Display.
Deleting the application or Spatial Display account does not cancel an App Store subscription.
